Weather in 2024 : With climate change across the world, major changes are also taking place in the weather. Recently, the Meteorological Department had said that for the first time in 123 years, the lowest rainfall was recorded in January. There was 91 percent less rainfall in 2024. Now meteorologists have predicted that this time due to the effect of “El Nino” and “La Nina” both heat and rain will be more.
The effect of El Nino increases the heat while La Nina increases the effect of monsoon. That means it rains more. According to a report by Indian Express, the effect of La Nina will be maximum during June, which means there will be more heat after that. And the effect of La Nino will start around September, which means rain will continue even after that.
What do meteorologists say?
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Climate and Meteorology Department of Skymet Weather has said, this time the spring season will last for a very short time. It will be hotter and La Nina is expected to develop around September. This will extend the monsoon and there will be more rainfall. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOA) has also issued a similar forecast and expressed the possibility of La Nina developing during August to September October.
Apart from this, he has expressed the possibility of La Nino conditions forming around the month of June. That is, due to the effect of excessive heat at that time, drought may also occur in many parts of the country. However, the entire situation regarding what its impact will be is still not clear.
What is La Nina?
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), La Nina is a climatic phenomenon in which the sea surface temperature in the eastern central part of the Pacific Ocean becomes lower than normal. Its effect changes global air flow patterns and creates a favorable environment for the Indian monsoon. La Nina years usually see above normal or normal rainfall in India.
What is El Nino?
The El Nino effect is a special weather phenomenon that occurs when ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean are higher than normal. If understood in simple language, due to this effect the temperature becomes very hot. Due to this, the warm surface water present in the western Pacific region starts moving eastwards along the equator, which affects the weather of India. In such a situation, the South Asia region has to face severe heat and drought conditions begin to develop. India is in this region, hence the heat increases here due to the effect of El Nino.
